CD REVIEW
Though he is too modest to mention it himself, one of our list
members - Dave 'Mustang Print' Gillam - has recently released an
excellent 6 track CD with his Perth, Australia band, On the Level.
On the Level have called the CD "Rockin Boogie Blues" - sounds like
the kind of music that ought to attract a bit of attention around
here! And it is well worth making a bit of noise about.
Dave's written 5 of the 6 tracks himself, and he covers the full
gamut of the old Rock catchphrase - there's Sex on the opening track,
Pony Express ("saddle up baby I'm the Pony Express, Ride me ride me
put me to the test"); Drugs on track three, Weed; and, well, maybe
not Rock n Roll, but lots of great bluesy boogie right across the CD.
The sound and production is great. Not as heavy and fast paced as
Quo - more the sound of Quo's bluesy forebears, with a smoky laid
back feel and plenty of fine harp - but Quo would certainly
recognise and applaud the boogie chugger of track five, Wonder Blue
my favourite track on the collection. Blues in E, which closes the
CD, is the other high point for me.
Have a look at Dave's On the Level site at

if I've whetted your appetite - there are sound samples of all
the tracks on the CD if you're interested to hear it for yourself!
